HOW TO INSTALL iText LIBRARY IN UBUNTU/DEBIAN

Depending of where the Java SDK is installed, there are many ways to install it, this is the most common:

Download iText jar file from here.
Save it on a new empty folder.
Go to the new folder and copy the .jar file to /ext/ folder where the SDK is installed. Eg: sudo cp *.jar /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/lib/ext/
That's it.

Installing MySQL in Ubuntu 9.04

I guess you are working with JMF.
If you got a problem like this, all you have to do is:

Copy all .so files FROM /JMF-2.1.1e/lib/ TO /usr/lib with: sudo cp *.so /usr/lib/
Compile your code :)

Install JMF 2.1.1e in Ubuntu 9.04

Download JMF .bin from here, choose
Rename the file from .bin to .zip
Copy the three .jar files FROM /JMF-2.1.1e/lib/ TO /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/lib/ext/ with this: sudo cp *.jar /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/lib/ext/
Restart, and you got it!.

SQLITE 3.6.22 + Ubuntu

If your need to upgrade to SQLite 3.6.22 I recommend you to get it here: http://www.sqlite.org/sqlite-amalgamation-3.6.22.tar.gz untar it then ./configure and make that's all.

One of the most important improvements on this version is that allows you to use more than one foreign key in a table. Eg:

If you just want to install the compiler follow Step One. If you want to testthe compiler with Eclipse follow Step Two.

Step One
1. Download MinGW installer and install it.
2. Ad the path: Right click on: My Computer>Properties>Advanced>Environment Variables
3. Look for Path in the list and click on Edit, add ;C:\MinGW\bin at the end (don't forget the semicolon). Save changes. That's it!

Step Two
3. Now, to test the compiler: Open Eclipse, click on File>New>C++ Project , write a name for your project and select Hello World C++ project and make sure that MinGW GCC is marked. Click on Finish. We are ready!
4. Click on Run>Run As>1 Local C/C++ Application. If you see the console (on Ecplise) you will see "Hello World!!!"
5. Now is time to code!

1. Look where linux is installed (eg: /dev/sda1, /dev/da2, etc).

If you don't know where your installation is type: GPARTED or type sudo fdisk -l to see your partitions.

For this example we will use /dev/sda9/ as an example.

2. sudo mkdir realroot

3. sudo mount /dev/sda9 realroot

4. Finally, copy this line as is: sudo grub-install --root-directory=realroot /dev/sda

5. That's all! :D

ACER ONE STOPED WORKING

A friend gave me her Acer One 150 because stoped working. Here are the main symptoms:

The computer turned on but the screen was black all the time.
The leds didn't turn on except the plug led when it was connected.
The fan used to go fast as normal but suddenly used to reduce the speed continuously.

At the begining I thought that the motherboard was damaged but then I noticed that the problem was related with the BIOS.

Solution: You need to update the BIOS.

Format a USB pen drive.
Download the latest BIOS driver from:Acer
Extract all the files to the USB pen drive (drag & drop)
Rename the BIOS file (eg: 3304.fd) to ZG5IA32.fd and then remove the disk.
Turn off your Acer One. Plgu your computer, the following procedure shouldn't be interrupted.
Connect the USB pen drive.
Press ESC+Fn (Escape key and Function key together) and press POWER button
Release Fn+Esc after ~ 3 seconds, the power button will be blinking.
Press the POWER button one more time and be patient (less than 10 minutes) until it restarts automatically or turn off. That's all!

NOTE:
These procedure made the computer run the BIOS and boot the computer again, but for some reason after I restart windows it used to turn off when windows was loading. So I decided to do the same procedure with a oldest Bios version (v. 3304) and I worked as new.
I read that the solution works for Acer One 150 and Acer One 110.

Remove Menu bar in Opera 10

I was looking for the way to remove Opera's menu bar since I have my Acer ONE. And today I found the way to make it disappear thanks to this post http://www.aswinanand.com/2008/12/hide-menu-bar-in-opera/ I took the information form the post. (http://www.aswinanand.com/)

1. Go to Tools -> Preferences.
2. Click the “Advanced” tab.
3. Select “Shortcuts” from the left side menu.
4. Select “Opera Standard” under “Keyboard Setup” and click on “Edit” button.
5. From the “Edit Keyboard Window” popup, select “Application” and then on “New” button.
6. Now type “F10″ without quotes, press Tab key & then type “Enable menu bar | Disable menu bar” without quotes.
7. Now click “OK” button on both the windows.

That's all!

WORKING WITH LATEX IN UBUNTU

Latex, is a word procesor with a lot of history used by scientifics, editorials and others. I recommend you to google Latex for details.

Here is the formula to work with latex in Ubuntu:

1. Type: sudo apt-get install texlive-latex-base

2. Type: sudo apt-get install texlive-latex-recommended

3. (optional) sudo apt-get install texlive-latex-extra texlive-fonts-recommended

If you want a visual editor install Lyx from Applications>Add/Remove.

Use Lyx for a graphical environment. Or use the text editor and compile on the terminal with: latex yourfile.tex to create a .dvi, or pdflatex yourfile.tex to create a pdf.

Acer One + Ubuntu 9.04

I was using my little computer during this weeks running windows XP minimal and it was hard not to miss my old laptop with Ubuntu 9.04. So I decided that it was time to install Ubuntu on my Acer One.

After many different trials with different distros I found the formula tu run Ubuntu on Acer One.

1. Install ubuntu 9.04 Desktop edition using a USB CD-ROM or other method.
2. After the installation get and install this two files kernel and headers (or visit aspireonekernel.com to get the files)
3. Restart your computer and your ready to enjoy Ubuntu on your Acer ONE.

WIRELESS: OK
CARD READER: OK // I just tried a SD card.
WEBCAM: OK // You can install Cheese Webcam from the repository to play with your cam.
